Overview

Primarily, the brief we were given was to make the Gatwick Airport website a trusted voice for all travellers, and an essential bookmark for its passengers and stakeholders; whilst at the same time addressing Gatwick’s commercial objectives, driving direct revenue to the airport and through it’s retailers.

As airports are daunting places—especially for infrequent flyers—users should feel at ease and not overwhelmed (as is the case with the majority of airport websites).

After visiting the site we wanted passengers to feel engaged and satisfied and arrive at Gatwick, relaxed, prepared and looking forward to their holiday or flight. With the website providing passengers with the necessary information that is relevant to them, it should put them in an excited and relaxed frame of mind, enabling them to focus more time on the fun things at the airport.

A big barrier to overcome was to try and change perception that the website is more than just a flight information board.

Gatwick also required all the content that was accessible to desktop users to also be on smaller screens such as mobile and tablet.

Completed during my employment at Merchant. More details about this project can be found here.
